tional public meeting on Tuesday,
January 25, in Salon A of the
Clarion Hotel at 17 Lows Drive in
Shepherdstown on proposed re-
placement of the Shepherdstewn
(James Rumsey) Bridge carrying
WV 480 and MD 34 over the Poto-
mac River at Shepherdstown and
its potential effects on historic re-
sources. The meeting will also ad-
dress Section 106 of the National
Historic Preservation Act of 1966
and the National Environmental
Policy Act and related regulations.
Scheduled in a workshop format
from 4 to 8 p.m the meeting will
afford participants an opportunity
to ask questions and state their
views and opinions on the advan-
tages and disadvantages of a num-
ber of alternatives developed by
the states of West Virginia and
Maryland, including rehabilitation
and temporary replacement
bridges upstream and down-
stream. Public comment will also
be sought regarding historic and/or
archaeological resources that may
be affected. Highways officials will
present information on the project
and receive public input.
