POWHATAN TEACHERS Laura Robb, head of the Upper School at Powhatan, and Kate Close, Reading Resource teacher, were among 2,000 attendees to the Southeastern Regional Conference of the International Reading Association in Charleston, S.C. The conference, held November 9-11, drew participants from Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, and Alabama. Mrs. Robb conducted one of the 100 workshops that were of- fered entitled, "Using Multiple Texts 3 ATTEND WORKSHOPS in Literature." The participants work- ed in groups to develop questions and strategies for thematic units such as Folk Tales, Friendships, Prejudice, Growing Up, Science Fiction, etc. In addition to the Charleston workshop,. Mrs. Robb also conducted a workshop on September 21 at the Sandy Hook Elementary School, Strasburg, Virginia. The workshop was for teachers of grades 3, 4, and 5 and focused on strategies using children's literature across the cur- riculum.
