Born on March 5, 1930, in Charles Town, WV, she was the daughter of the late William Mason Harris and Margaret Watson Harris. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Charles Town. Jane graduated from Charles Town High School in 1947 and went to work for Commonwealth's Attorney Joseph A. Massie, Jr., in Frederick County, Virginia, as a secretary, and later in the same capacity for Potomac Light and Power in Charles Town. Jane married George Franklin Cummings in 1955 and went on to raise their family in lower historic Harpers Ferry. She was town clerk for Harpers Ferry for twenty- five years and a member of the Harpers Ferry Woman's Club. She was also an early member of the Charles Town Library, and was particularly fond of Regency novels, especially by Georgette Heyer. Friends and co-workers alike knew Jane for her demure, sweet nature. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Cummings Brooks, of Hamilton, VA; two sons, David C. Cummings and John M. Cum- mings, both of Harpers Ferry; one sister, Rosemary Harris Phil- lips, of Winchester, VA; one grandson, Gregory C. Brooks, of Hamilton, VA; one cousin, F. Stephen Watson, of Bedington, WV; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Franklin Cummings, on September 8, 2012; one son, Joseph Andrew Cum- mings, of Harpers Ferry; and one cousin, Marian Watson Owens, of Leetown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, October 3, 2012, at St. Peters Catholic Church in Harpers Ferry, with the Rev. Fr. John Ledford as celebrant, assisted by Deacon David Galvin. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, from 7 to 9 p.m., with a vigil at 8:30 p.m., at the Eackles-Spencer & Nor- ton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry/Charles Town.
