It was Oktoberfest this past Sunday at the Bavarian Inn in Shepherdstown and a good crowd was on
hand for authentic German music, entertainment, dancing and food, as is evidenced by the photos on
this page.
Providing the dances for the event were the Washingtonian Schuh Plattlers, who performed to the
original music by the Edelweiss Band, Lothar Steschner, band leader.
Tony and Ilse Denson served as the clowns for the occasion to entertain the children, with Katie
Mallen, 7, of Arlington, Va., and Leila Mallen Ommi, 3, of Bethesda, Md., shown as Tony the Clown
makes balloon figures. In the other photo, Ilse paints a butterfly on the face of Lauren Tucker, 2 years
old, of Frederick, Md.
Oktoberfest has been part of the Bavarian Inn's activities for a number of years under the direction
of Erwin and Carol Asam, owners of the inn, and has proved extremely popular with both visitors and
local residents in the tri-state area.
