Moose Lodge 948 Supports Fire Companies

The officers of Charles Town Moose Lodge 948 again this year authoriz-
ed a cash gift, on behalf of the entire membership, to each of the fire com-
panies in Jefferson County. This gift is in recognition of the humanitarian
services unselfishly provided by all the fireflghters in the community. Each
chief, or his representative, received a check for $500. The presentation
was made at the Charles Town Moose Lodge. Receiving the checks on
behalf of the fire companies are (front row, left to right), James Ainsworth,

pleted 20 years of active military
service.
Sergeant First Class Alvin Jenkins,
son of Mrs. Hester E. Jenkins, father
Sgt. Jenkins entered the United
States Army in December 1966 and
was stationed at Fort Gordon, Ga..
where he attended basic combat train-
ing and advanced individual training
(AIT), and was issued assignment
orders for the 701st Maintenance Bat-
talion, 1st Infantry Division (Big Red
One), Republic of Vietnam.
After serving nine months and 22
days in Vietnam, Jenkins received the
Bronze Star medal for meritorious ser-
vice against hostile forces. SFC
Jenkins' other awards included the Ar-
my Commendation medal with Oak
Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct medal.

nam Campaign medal.
SFC Jenkins' umt in Vietnam was
also awarded the Cross for Valor with
Palm Leaf unit citation. Sgt. Jenkins
departed the Army in September 1969,
and returned to service in March 1971.
He has served tours of duty in Korea,
Germany, Panama. Hawaii. Fort
Hood, Texas. Fort Gordon. Ga., Fort
Detrick, Md, and the Pentagon,
Washington, D.C.
He has attended Washington State
Community College, Georgia Military
College, courses at Lakeland and
Sheppard Air Force Bases in Texas,
and most recently, the non-
commissioned officers advance course
located at Fort Gordon.
SFC Jenkins plans to retire
September 1, 1989, qth 21 years active
military service.

will be the topic of the Governor's Con-
ference on Small and Rural
Business/West Virginia Legislative
Economic Summit '88, Governor Arch
A. Moore, Jr., announced today. The
event will be held September 28 and 29
at the Charleston House Holiday Inn.
Hosted jointly by the Small Business
Development Center of the Governor's
Office of Community and Industrial
Development and the Legislature's
Commission on Employment Oppor-
tunities and Economic Development,
the small business conference and
economic summit will address
regional business concerns and pro-
vide information for the development
of a statewide economic development
strategy.
The summit will include an over-
view of potential financing for small
businesses, criteria for successful job
training programs, promotional cam-
paign strategies for marketing West
Virginia domestically and interna-
tionaUy, and outlooks on the state's im-
age and its effects on economic
growth.
In addition, the program will feature
three discussion panels headed by a
group of state delegates and senators
who will examine
business tax reform
