The community extends their sympathy to the family of Mr, Paul F. Jefferson who passed away on Wednesday at the Jefferson Memorial Hospital. Services were held on Saturday at 10 a.m. from the Melvin T. Strider Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Frum officiating. Interment was in the Fort Lincoln Cemetery in Brentwood Md. The community was saddenec to learn of the death of Stacey Lynn Palmer who died in the Winchester Memorial Hospital from injuries received when struck by a car near her home while riding a bicycle Thursday. Sympathy is extended to her family. Rev. and Mrs. Curtis Palmer, Sr., her grandparents and family are well known in the Middleway area. The community was saddened and shocked in the death of Neff Wade Kackley who died of in-: juries sustained in a bicycle-car accident on Rt. 51, Monday, July 17. Sympathy is extended from the community to his parents, sisters and brother Jack Ronald Kacldey, of Middleway. Mrs. Nona Strickland and daughter from Knightdale, N.C., Mr. and Mrs. Charles Flowers and family and granddaughter of Greensboro, N.C., were Wednesday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. John Hayes. Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Dailey, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Gruber, Mr. Lee Brown, Mrs. Dora Feigley, Mrs. James Cain and Mrs. Virginia Dunlap, from the village, were on the bus tour with the AARP Chapter of Jefferson County and spent the past three days at Niagara Falls, Canada. The community would like to welcome Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Coffeey who just moved into the community. They moved into the former Brainerd Bates property. Mr. Harry Mercer from the VA Center was able to spend the day at his residence here on Sunday. Mrs. Elaine Friend and daughter Anessa entertained at their home on Thursday, July 20, at a baby shower luncheon in honor of Mrs. Susie Ring. The guests were invited into the dining room and seated at a table laid with crystal and silver with lighted candles trimmed in blue and pink. Favors of homemade baby rattlers were at each place setting. They enjoyed a luncheon consisting of tomato juice, fruit salad, tomatoes stuffed with chicken salad, deviled eggs, chips, rolls, iced tea, ice cream and brownies. Mter lunch, games were played and prizes going to Mrs. Naomi Barrow, Mrs. Irene Ring, Mrs. Betty Smith and Mrs. Rosie Ring. At the conclusion of the afternoon, the mother-to-be opened her gifts assisted by her daughter Rebecca Lee. She received lovely gifts for her new baby. Those attending ,along with Mrs. Friend, Anessa and Scott, were Mrs. Betty Smith, Mrs. Irene Ring, Mrs. Mary Frances Rebert, Mrs. Rosie Ring, Mrs. Naomi Barrow, Mrs. Mary White, Rebecca Ring and Cindy Ring. As each guest left Mrs. Friend and Anessa presented them with a flower for the occasion. The Wizard Clipp Singles met on Thursday for their regular meeting. Instead of the regular covered dish the group enjoyed a cook-out on the lawn at Scollay Hall. Grace was sung by the group and the invocation was given by Mrs. Mary Edwards. The menu consisted of country ham, hot dogs, green beans and potatoes, macaroni salad, potato salad, jello salad and iced tea. Following the cook-out lrs. Mary White read two short stories "Oldest Castle in the United States", and "A Dining Trea for Detective Buffs", followed by a social hour. Thoe attending were Mr. Lafayette Smith, Mr. Lee Brovn, Mr. Bob Hague, Mr. Carl Hill, Mesdames Mary Edwards, Mary White, Louise Bradley, Naomi Barrow, Virginia Dunlap, Bertha Nicodemus, Dora Feigley, Catherine Cross, Ruth Moreland. Guests for the evening were Mr. and Mrs, Philip Rehert and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Stevens. The next meeting will be held on Thur- sday, August 17, a.t 6:30 p.m. singles are welcome. Mr. and Mrs. James Hamner of Parsons, W. Va., spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. William Friend, Anessa and Scott. Mrs. Bertha Nicodemus spent Sunday with her sister, Mrs. Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Richard Nicodemus were Mr. and Mrs. Albert Nicodemus and son of Berryville, Va. Mr. Douglas Ring is a patient in the King's Daughters Hospital. Mr. Ring entered for observation and tests. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Jones and family spent last weekend vacationing at Ocean City, Md. On Thursday night John Kline of Richmond, Va., was an over- night guest with Jeffrey Jones. Mr. Clifton Poston has returned home after being a patient in the Jefferson Memorial Hospital. Mr. Tommie White has returned to his home. He was recuperating at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Harold Poston after being a patient in the :Winchester Memorial Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Swartz visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. D. P. McIlwee of Win- chester, Va. Mr. McIlwee en- tered the Winchester Memorial Hospital on Sunday afternoon. Lisa Deck is spending the week with her grandparents. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Comer and great-grandson Brian Richardson of Ransom were Friday callers with Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Johnson. Miller Printing Co.
