~)plr[t of JEFFERSON and FARMER'S ADVOCATE News/State Wednesday, July 24, 2013 A5 CHARLESTON -- Unemployment rates rose in 54 of West Virginia's 55 counties in June. WorkForce West Virginia said Fri- day that Pocahontas County was the only county to see a drop in the job- less rate. Monongalia and Jefferson counties have the lowest rates in the state at 4.2 percent. Counties with the highest rates were Webster, 11.2 percent; and Mason and Mingo, both at 10.5 percent. West Virginia's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 6.1 percent in June, down slightly from May's rate. MORGANTOWN Hospital marking 25th anniversary: WVU Healthcare's Ruby Memorial Hos- pital in Morgantown is celebrating its 25th anniversary. Hundreds of hospital employees and medical staff gathered Friday to kick off a celebration that will last into the fall for the facility that opened on July 19, 1988. Officials say that earlier this month, nearly 460 overnight patients were being cared for at the hospital. That's the high- est census the hospital has recorded since it opened. The building was a replacement for the original University Hospital next door. It features the WVU Children's Hospital and the Jon Michael Moore Trauma Center. Ruby Memorial Hospital is currently undergoing a multimillion-dollar expan- sion of health facilities on and off campus to serve the growing population of the re- gion. MIDDLEBOURNE Lottery to be used to handle W.Va. land searches: Tyler County is using a lottery to help keep oil and gas drill- ing companies from camping around the courthouse to research property deeds. Tyler County Clerk Teresea Hamilton will allow abstractors to randomly draw numbers to determine who will get one of the 96 coveted daily slots to access the re- cords vault. Officials said that they hope the move will prevent the abstractors and their so-' called "line holders" from camping around the courthouse all night long. Middle- boume residents turned out Thursday to meet with county officials about the issue, To accommodate the crowds, the court- house has extended its hours and abstrac- tors have been limited to two hours each inside the vault. The vault can only ac- commodate 16 people at a time. -- Compiled with information from the Associated PresS CHARLES TOWN POLICE DEPARTMENT July 14 6:09 a.m. East Washington Street, vehicle crash, report taken 9:29 a.m. South Mildred Street, destruction' of property, report taken 9:53 a.m. North George Street, alarm, building secure 11:44 a.m. Willow Spring Drive, vehicle crash/private property, information exchanged 2:52 p.m.U.S. 340, motorist assist, assistance rendered 9:25 p.m.W.Va. 9, assist sheriff's office (pursuit), assistance rendered 9:35 p.m. Somerset Boulevard, alarm, building secure 10 p.m. Eastern Regional Jail, warrant service, arrest made (failure to appear) 10:24 p.m. West Washington Street, suspicious person, subject located/no problems 11:50 p.m. Craig Hill Drive, aiarm, accidental July 15 12:40 a.m. West Washington Street, disturbance, advised of options 3:47 a.m. North Mildred Street, alarm, building secure 11:12 a.m.U.S. 340, welfare check, subject located~returned to parent 12:31 p.m. West Liberty Street, warrant service, arrest made (failure to appear) 1:10 p.m. East Hunter Street, petit larceny, report taken 1:37 p.m. Hickory Tree Court, disturbance, advised of options 3:36 p.m. Jefferson Memorial Park, animal complaint, area checked/ unable to locate animal in vehicle 4:40 p.m. Marlow Road, welfare check, no problems 5:34 p.m. South George Street, vehicle crash, report taken 10:26 p.m. Federal Way, disturbance, advised of options 10:56 p.m. East Washington Street, traffic stop, arrest made (third offense/ driving suspended) 11:35 p.m. North West Street, child abuse, report taken/under investigation July 16 12:10 a.m. Patrick Henry Way, assist sheriff's office (disturbance), assistance rendered 12:44 a.m. North Lawrence Street -- Ranson, assist Ranson Police Department (alarm), assistance rendered 1:37 a.m. Hickory Tree Court, disturbance, advised of options 2:41 a.m. North Mildred Street -- Ranson, assist Ranson Police Department (disturbance), assistance rendered 4:14 a.m. South Church Street, open door, secured door 4:23 a.m. Somerset Boulevard, alarm, located open gate/secured 9:51 a.m. West Washington Street, disturbance, advised of options 11:11 a.m. Morison Street, warrant service, arrest made (active warrants) 12:02 p.m. Evitts Run Park, narcotics complaint, area checked/unable to locate 2:41 p.m. East Washington Street, vehicle crash, report taken 4:36 p.m. West Washington Street, destruction of property, report taken 8:18 p.m. South George Street, disturbance, advised of options 9:27 p.m. Evitts Run Park, narcotics complaint, citation issued for possession of marijuana July 17 1:58 a.m.U.S. 340, assist sheriff's office (vehicle pursuit), assistance rendered 2:33 a.m. East Washington Street, assist sheriff's office (welfare check), assistance rendered 3:10 a.m. West Liberty Street, suspicious activity, area checked/ unable to locate 1:05 p.m. West Liberty Street, warrant service, arrest made (failure All Fruits Picked Fresh Everyday/ Come Visit Our Market -- Opened Daily -- Rt. 9 Kearneysville :HARDS, INC.
