24 SPIRIT OF JEFFERSON Farmer's ADVOCATE -- THURSDAY. JULY 14, 1988
Marianna Smallwood
Dial 725-5707
Shirley Russ'ell entertained Tues-
day, July 5 to two ladies' groups. At
noon the Sharing Group met, then at
7:30 the Ladies Bible Class came for
the monthly meeting with 11 members
and a guest, Mrs. Thompson, present.
Several members of the Sharing
Group who are also members of the
Ladies Bible Class spent the afternoon
with Shirley, then joined in the even-
ing meeting. A good report was given
concerning Marie Sowers who had the
misfortune to injure an ankle. Our best
wishes and prayers are extended to
her and to our member Frances
Penwell, who continues on the sick list.
Kitty Hughes, president, called the
meeting to order asking Barbara Har-
shrnan to open with prayer. Devotions
given by Marianna Smallwood, who
chose the topic, "Children in Church,"
an article, "We Should Allow Children
to Feel Involved in Church," the
hymn, "Jesus Loves Even Me," clos-
ing with a prayer.
Barbara Harshman's lesson was
based on "Freedoms," in recognition
of the fourth of July, using Bible
readings. Many correlations between
the O.T. and M. (N) T. were pointed
out in regard to freedom. She closed

Minutes of the last meeting were
read with a change being made in the
hostess.
Announcements and discussions
followed. In August, the group will
meet for the summer outing Tuesday,
August 2. Mary Ann Grfffith will ar-
range the details. The men's group will
be contacted to join this outing. In
September, Barbara Harshrnan will
be hostess with Mary Ann Griffith hav-
in_g devotions.
The treasurer gave the financial
report, the evening's offering was
taken, and Shirley Russell paid her
birthday dues. There were no out-
standing bills.
A survey of the hymn books given by
Mary Zombro was made resulting in
two not in use at present but accounted
for. Since our enrollment is now larger
there is a need for all books at the
meeting.
The annual Sunday School picnic is
to be held on Sunday, August 7.
Plans were made for a baby shower
for Donna White Nicodemus, spon-
sored by the Sharing Group and Ladies
Bible Class to be held Sunday, August
14, at 2 p.m.
Following adjournment and the
benediction the ladies met in the din-
ing room for refreshments. This was
the first visit to Shirley's new home,

who, with the other, were delighted
with its many convenient features.
The Community Men's Bible Class
met at the home of Clarence Smith
Tuesday, July 5, where they enjoyed
the evening meal to which each one
contributed. Many took advantage of
the pool. Sorry to learn that Clarence
became ill later in the week but to date
is doing well. Mrs. Smith is confined
to her home since this hot weather's
reaction is against her.
Diane and Mike Alvarez have
returned home after spending a week
in the Virgin Isles where the latter was
assigned to a business trip.
Wendy Jeffries has returned home
after spending several weeks in Orlan-
do, W. Va., visiting her paternal
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Coleman
Jeffries. She assisted her grandmother
during the convalesence of her grand-
father who recently submitted to
surgery.
Mr. and Mrs. John Parker and
Johanna, of Weston, have been recent
visitors with the former's brother-in-
law and sister, Cpl. Jeffries and Mrs.
John Jeffries. The latter has purchasd
a home in the Kearneysville area and
plans to move in the near future.
Stuart and Gall Wolford, of
Westminster, Md., were visitors of his
parents, Tom and Barbara Wol[ord,
before leaving for a vacation in
