She is Volunteer Coordinator of the Jefferson Memorial Hospital and is very active in the Woman's Club in Harpers Ferry. In addition, she acts as a sub- stitute grandmother for little Jessica, daughter of Carl and Cynthia Luty. Peg McCullen and her com- mittee did an excellent job in getting out' our new Directory. Downings have a new phone number, 725-3291. Jean Taneyhill had a fun time celebrating her 50th college reunion at Vassar last week. She was the bartender at the gay parties and she certainly was a wise choice as our Jean is a teetotaler. A number of ladies are meeting Monday to learn about bridge. The Chavez have mopped up after four floods and they are hoping that the Shenandoah stays calm this summer. Yvonne Wellman was the honor guest at a retirement party given for her on May 31, at the telephone company office in White Oaks, Md., Having worked for the company for 32 years, Yvonne is ready now to relax and enjoy the beautiful flowers her father grows. Her parents, Glen and Marion Wellman, are going to Lisbon Falls, Maine, to be with their granddaughter at her graduation. I ran into Edna Peddicord, Marilyn Pinson and Hazel Kerner at the A&P store Friday. How these gala get all those groceries back up the mountain is beyond me. School Now Taking Pre-Kinderprten Applicants for '79 Powhatan School is now ac- cepting applications for the pre- kindergarten class for the 1978- 79 academic year, Donald E. W. Niemann, headmaster, an- nounced today. Niemann also pointed out that the school is now administering tests to candidates in other grades. In addition to the pre- kindergarten, there are a few openings in grades 2, 3 and 6. Interested parents are invited to call the school for further in- formation.
