Hundreds of hours of work goes into the construction of a float and Twila Carra, float chairman, wishes a special thank you to Mr. and Mrs. David Odor for their technical advise, construction of the "Apple men" and moral support. Helping hands came from other members of the community that do not have children in the high school such as Pete Slusher, whose truck pulled the float, and Margaret stringer who printed the signs. Many students, parents and its Winfield office. Although sheriff's are permitted to issue decals for Class A passenger cars and the Class G motorcycle plate, under the new legislation, they are not permitted to issue interested persons helped t 9 make the float a success. IVehicle Owners With Registrations i ly I Urg d Apply N Expiring Ju e owl CHARLESTON -- Registration applications for nearly 600,000 vehicles in i various classifications that are due for renewal July 1, were mailed last week by the Department of Motor Vehicles. DMV Commissioner Virginia Roberts asks vehicle owners whose registrations expire July 1, to return the applications as "soon as possible. We are en- tering the peak period for the department. The rush will be all the more demanding as we will be implementing legislation bringing Class B, non- commercial trucks, into the monthly staggered renewal system and changing their designation to Class A." Prior to the legislation, Class A vehicles were limited to passenger cars. About 256,050 non-commercial trucks, mostly pick-ups, with gross weight limit up to 8,000 pounds, are affected by the legislation. The legislation also mandates increases in registration fees for some classes of vehicles. Mrs. Roberts said the registration renewal ap- plications will indicate the ap- propriate fee for the particular vehicle being renewed. "The applications will also show the license number that should coincide with the present license plate, with the exception of motorcycles and the newly- designated Class A trucks. The Class A trucks will be issued a permanent Class A license plate, renewable with a decal under the monthly staggered system. Motorcycles will be issued a new license plate, featuring gold lettering against a blue background," she said. Vehicles in miscellaneous classifications that are due for renewal July 1, and which will be issued decals, include Class B, K, E, trucks, truck tractors or road tractors, of 8,000 declared gross weight or more; Class C, non-commercial trailers; Class H, J and L. commercial vehicles; Class R; recreational vehicles; Class S, special equipment; Class T, utility trailers; Class V, antique cars; and Class X, farm trucks. Owners of commercial vehicles in Classes H, J, K and L must have Public Service Commission approval before DMV can process their renewals. The Commissioner noted that the Class A truck plates as well as the renewal of miscellaneous vehicles may be obtained only through the department's main office at the State Capitol or at the Class A truck tags until January of 1980.
