PAGE A10 I Wednesday, May 21,2014 I pirit of JEFFERSON and FARMER'S ADVOCATE [ NEWS I Editor FROM PAGE A2 where an emergency angioplasty cleared a 99 percent blockage in one artery and a 100 percent blockage in the other. By midnight, he was recovering in his room in ICU and starting to again look and feel like himself. By Monday evening, his recovery had progressed enough to win a move to a regular room. He may be home by mid-week. He is missing the normal hectic Tuesday in the newsroom, instead weighing in on the most important matters by text or email. As difficult as it is to put out this week's paper without the person in charge on site, I have not one complaint - I am simply grateful he's still with us. Even this week as we worked on stories where health issues figure prominently - Mills talks about how his near-fatal battle with lung cancer in Bonnie Williamson's A1 profile while the Fishers' story appears in this week's Life section - we weren't thinking of dealing with a health calamity of Our own. We heard Mills aud the Fishers say that their lives changed forever in an instant, but now we understand their stories in a new way. We hope you'll bear with us this week and in the weeks ahead if it takes longer to get a call or email returned. We are in uncharted waters. We appreciate all of those who have been in touch as word of Rob's illness has gotten out. Your prayers and well wishes for him and our family and your help and offers to help mean so much. We feel blessed to be working and living in a community where so much kindness exists. As always, we thank you for reading the Spirit and giving us the chance to make a living doing what we love. -- Christine Snyder Shutting down the town The lower part of Harpers Ferry was closed to visitors and traffic last week as Park Service employees raced to move items in buildings to higher ground. Heavy rains overnight Thursday swelled area creeks and streams and produced a significant amount of standing water on area roads. The swollen Shenandoah nearly submerged the low-lying ruins on nearby Virginus Island.
