Kennedy, it was "soul" of our country at stake in the 1968 presidential election, and a number of historians have gone on our re- cord saying it was his assassination 50 years ago next month just as he appeared to have clinched the Dem- ocratic nomination for the White House that replaced the hopefulness of the early '60s with a cynical belief that real change wasn't possible. Next month, the Robert C. Byrd Center for Congressional History and Education in Shepherd- stown will sponsor a special program on Kennedy's po- litical career and enduring legacy. It will feature two authors who have written acclaimed books on Robert Kennedy - Jules Witcover, whose "85 Days: The Last Campaign of Robert Kennedy," was first published in 1969, and John R. Bohrer, the author of 2017's "The Revolution of Robert Kennedy: From Power to Protest after JFK." Bohrer is a New York- based reporter, historian and television news producer while Witcover, a D.C. jour- nalist and columnist whose news career began in the ABOVE: Jules Witcover began working In D,C. for Newhouse Newspapers in 1954 and was just steps away when Robert F.
