Many members and friends appended the Camp Hill United Methodist Chu,rh on last Sun- day, celebrating the one ,hund- red and forty-fifth anniversary of ,the church which was first formed in ,the McFaden house, opposi,te the church in 1830. The Maryland Annual Confer- ence was fi.rst organized in 1.829 of wh.ich ,tis Ohurch was a part. Bishop Francis Asbury, in 1782 came to Martinsburg and preached at the Court House. This was the first ethodist preaching west of the Blue Ridge. The ethodist Society was first established in this section [n 1786. In 1833 ,the Methodist Prates ants woriped in lhe old "Free Ohurch" down ,town util it was. destroyed by fire in 1845. h 1845 a new church was .built a.nd used until the pre- sent Camp Hill Church was built. Caanp Hill gets i,ts name from he many Mili,tary camps situated on the hill under .the command of General Pinckney in 1799.
