SPIRIT of d'EFFI RSON I-'AUE At and FAP MER'S ADVOCATE NEWS Wednesday, March 21, 2018 Small-scale projects can give any home a big boost Staff, wire report CHARLES TOWN - With March well underway, many of us are settling on the home improvement projects we want to tackle this spring. One point to remember: It's not just major jobs that yield big results. Some DIY work that can be complet- ed over the course of a single day or a weekend and give your home a lift: Create an accent wall. Painting a focal wall in a bold color lends serious impact, but doesn't take as long or re- quire as many materials as painting an entire room. ~J Highlight that entryway. Let your home's entrance make a statement. Con- sider a new coat of paint - a light color if the space is small - or consider a bet- ter organization system if your foyer or mudroom is a mishmash of shoes, jack- ets and the like. Paint the front door a color so that it pops from the curb. Put up new decorative house numbers or a new mailbox or select a new welcome mat with a fresh look you love. Create a gallery on the staircase. Arrange some of your favorite framed photos, artwork or wall accents so that they ascend the wall of a staircase. There's no reason for this prime spot to stay bare. Install a fresh, vibrant light fixture, or take the easier path and add a free- standing table or floor lamp to put a room or part of a room in a whole new light. Update bathroom or kitchen hard- ware. Replace tired or outdated hard- ware with a brushed metal and a shape or design that's more "you." Install stair runners. Dress up hard- wood stairs with decorative carpet run- ners or paint individual stair treads to create visual appeal. Get your garage in shape. No one's garage should resemble a supersized junk drawer. If your garage has become so cluttered you can't fit your car inside, remove what you no longer use and or- ganize the rest. 99 Cary Lu Circle, Harpers Ferry, WV 25425 Rt. 340 & Halltown Rd. 304-728-6656 Jefferson County residents only * 10 gallonsperpersonfree $2.00 per gallon over 10 gallons Latex & oilpaints Contact store for details $2.00 per gallon for contractors BECOME A pirit sunscnnnm THIS SPRING!
