A meetup will begin at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 28 at Charles Washington Hall and is open to anyone interested. The mural project will be installed at two locations in Charles Town in May. The C'Town Public Arts Com- mittee, a group charged with boosting art, culture and heri- tage in downtown, is heading the effort. Next week's free infor- mational session will include the showing of a short in- structional video. Isaiah Zagar is a world- renowned artist who works with community groups and citizens to create dynamic murals from pieces of tile, mirror, glass, objects and paint. He has installed 200+ mu- rals across the nation, includ- ing 73 in Philadelphia. Using a collaborative, communi- ty-based process, Zagar will help Charles Town create a beautiful work of art that re- flects the hopes and vision of the community, according to Elizabeth Ricketts, one of the organizers. At an informational meet- ing held in January, more than 50 citizens volunteered to play a role in the project. "There are many more op- portunities to contribute, such as helping with the collection of supplies, publicizing the project, fundraising, photo- graphing the project and ac- tually applying pieces to the mural," Ricketts said. Margle Battles, Broker ~~ Rotary provides an opportunity to follow my passion for pub- lic and community service. I enjoy the balanced efforts of our Club to raise funds to invest as well as work in many community service organizations and projects in Jefferson County and the Eastern Panhandle. Our Club has raised and donated around $725,000 since 1989. Rotary has also given me the opportunity to meet so many people who want to serve their community. Rotarians can vis# other clubs around the globe and I enjoy this when traveling. If you would be interested in joining Rotary, just visit us on Facebook TownRotary to learn more about the local club.
